This mature eucalyptus grove was planted some 30 years ago, when there where plans to build a paper factory in this part of Cáceres province.
The factory never materialized, so by now the plantation represents a very considerable tonnage in wood. The elderly owners live abroad and do not have the time to capitalise on their property. They simply want to sell.
The purchaser of this property can simply sell the wood to a professional local firm who comes and cuts the wood, and removes all the stumps and roots. Such a firm pays approx. Euros 12 - 15 per metric ton. There are many, many hundreds of tons of wood on the finca.
Once the stand of wood has been removed, the new owner has created a terrain for building a vacation cabin or house, at a very economical price.
The last two photographs here show a nearby terrain which has been cleared already, and a small house built on a nearby terrain, to show what would be possible to do.
On properties such as these, too small in size for obtaining a full building permission, one applies for permission to build a 'toolshed'. Slowly but surely one transforms this into a habitable small house. The maximum square meters for such a small, fully functional house are about 90 m2. Many local people do this, without any problems.
